Venezuela seeks to make El Petro the main cryptocurrency OPEC

The Minister of Petroleum and the head of the state-owned enterprise PDVSA, Manuel Quevedo, announced that in 2019 Venezuela would make El Petro the “main digital currency of OPEC”.

“El Petro will become the digital currency for oil deals on a global scale. We will present it to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, ”the official said.

According to the Cuban state news agency Prensa Latina, Venezuelan authorities are planning to launch El Petro to the world market in the first quarter of next year. Manuel Quevedo is convinced that this will not only help improve the state of the country's economy, but “guaranteedly” will ensure its growth and prosperity.

“Fuel for airplanes and ships – all this we will sell for El Petro. This is the currency of Venezuela, ”the Chinese news agency Xinhua quotes the minister as saying.
