The number of payment channels of the Lightning Network has exceeded 15,000

According to the 1ML service, the current number of Lightning Network (LN) second level protocol channels is 15,378. The current network capacity is 500 BTC, which is equivalent to $ 2.12 million.

Over the past 30 days, the number of LN channels has grown by almost a quarter. These channels connect 4744 Lightning-network nodes, the number of which increased by 13% over the same period. On average, 31 nodes and 282 channels appear on this network per day.

The Lightning Network solution allows instant bitcoin transactions with negligible commissions. In addition, the development of LN-network contributes to solving the problem of scalability of the first cryptocurrency.

Recall, recently, the company Blockstream has promised to make possible Lightning-payments between space satellites and announced the expansion of service in the Asia-Pacific region.
