The number of hacker attacks for the purpose of hidden mining has doubled over the year
According to Microsoft's Security Intelligence Report , based on an analysis of data provided by corporate and private users, in 2018, the number of ransomware attacks decreased by 73%.
In Russia, the share of attacks of extortionists has decreased by one third of the total number of cyber attacks – to the monthly average of 0.08%, and the least of these types of threats were recorded in Sweden (0.02%), Japan (0.01%), USA ( 0.02%), Great Britain (0.02%) and Ireland (0.01%).
However, attacks with the aim of hidden mining of cryptocurrencies were carried out twice as often as before. In Russia and Ukraine, the number of affected users is more than three times higher than the average in the world.
Most often, users from Ethiopia, Tanzania, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Zambia were subjected to cryptographic attacks, and least of all from Ireland, Japan, the United States and China.
Also, the number of phishing attacks, which began to be carried out according to more complex schemes with the simultaneous use of several attack vectors, increased 4.5 times.
Recall that, according to the data of the Russian cybersecurity company Kaspersky Lab, the number of cases of attacks for hidden mining in 2018 reached 13 million, against 3.5 million in 2017. And, according to the calculations of the Cyber Threat Alliance group, the number of cryptographic attacks in 2018 increased by 459% compared with the previous year.
