At the March 22 board meeting of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent), its head, Grigory Ivliev, said that the department was successfully introducing blockchain technology into its daily work.

In particular, a protected repository of information about computer programs and databases, as well as registration of intellectual property in the form of 3D-models, has appeared. Ivliev noted the importance of moving to registering 3D models and using the blockchain to fix patent information.

According to the head of Rospatent, Russia poses a question to the international community about these technological opportunities. Now the Russian Federation is the co-chair of the working group of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on 3D models, and also the chair of the working group on distributed registries (blockchain technology).

Currently, Rospatent is awaiting results from cooperation with the IPChain Association (the National Coordinating Center for Processing Transactions with Rights and Intellectual Property Objects), with which the Office signed an agreement in February last year.

It is worth noting that last year, speaking at the international conference “Digital Transformation: Intellectual Property and Blockchain Technologies”, the head of Rospatent stated that in Russia there is an “incredible increase” in the number of patent applications for blockchain. According to the official, more than a hundred patents have already been granted.
