July 18 at the G7 meeting will discuss the regulation of cryptocurrency and the Libra project from Facebook
French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said that tomorrow, July 18, the risks associated with the spread of cryptocurrencies , including Libra from Facebook, and ways to minimize them will be discussed at a meeting of G-7 finance ministers. This was the French minister said today in an interview with the newspaper Corriere della Sera.
The G7 (Group of Seven, G7) is a club of leading powers represented by Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, the USA, France and Japan.
Le Mayor said :
“We need to assess how much data is accumulated, determine the risks of financing terrorism and money laundering, the danger of destabilization of national currencies [with the introduction of cryptocurrency]. Libra should not be allowed to transform into a sovereign currency. We are closely following this Facebook project. ”
Recall that the Libra cryptocurrency project has already managed to cause concern to many politicians, officials and financiers, including Donald Trump, German Minister of Finance Scholz and Bank of England President Mark Carney.
As coinspot.io wrote earlier, Francois Villeroy de Galo, the head of the Central Bank of France, announced at the end of June about plans to create a working group on cryptocurrency, which will represent the G7 countries.
The group will be headed by a member of the board of the European Central Bank Benoit Kyur. One of the main tasks of the group will be working with the Libra project. It is unclear when this group will be created, but, most likely, this will happen before the expected release date of Libra in 2020.
