Hackers have opened access to parts of secret documents about the events of September 11,

A group of hackers called The Dark Overlord, threatening to reveal secret information about the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, if it does not receive a ransom, revealed the first part of the documents.
Hackers claim that they have stolen 18,000 documents with confidential information regarding the 9/11 terrorist attacks from a number of the world's largest insurance companies, and they demand a ransom in bitcoins for nondisclosure.
In addition to extortion, hackers also accept donations from users who want this information to be disclosed.
In total, the archive contains five “levels” of documents, each of which contains “more secrets, more defamatory materials, more SSI, SCI, materials on government investigations and, in general, more truth.”
Twitter has already blocked a group account . However, the attackers switched to Steemit, a censorship-resistant social network based on the blockchain technology.
In their new press release of January 3, hackers said that they do not care about the truth. For them, the documentation on the events of September 11th is only a way to make money. They also announced for the first time the cost of disclosing each set of documents – for all five levels.
“Given our motives (money, in particular, Bitcoin), we do not intend to disclose the“ most juicy ”documents until we are paid the full amount. However, with a view to public awareness and transparency, we officially publish a compensation plan. Below are the amounts needed to disclose each level of documents filled with new facts unknown before, ”the group said in a statement on Steemit.
The payment plan is as follows :
- Layer_1.container – 5000 USD in BTC
- Layer_2.container – 50,000 USD in BTC
- Layer_3.container – 100,000 USD in BTC
- Layer_4.container – 1,000,000 USD to BTC
- Layer_5.container – 2,000,000 USD in BTC
Since the publication of their first application, hackers have received about 3 BTC donations. As a result, documents of the “first level” were disclosed.
As noted by CCN , the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 are the most important topic in US history. Many people do not believe in the official version of the authorities, so the publication of confidential information on the terrorist attacks of 9/11 may be of interest to a large number of different groups.
In the meantime, it is difficult to say how important are the documents that the hackers managed to get, and what impact their disclosure will have on the public.
