Tennis star Serena Williams invested in Coinbase

American professional tennis player and four-time Olympic champion Serena Williams revealed the details of the investment made through Serena Ventures. Among them was the largest US cryptocurrency company Coinbase.

Since 2014, Serena Ventures has invested in more than 30 companies, and the aggregate market capitalization of these enterprises exceeds $ 12 billion.

Recall last fall, Coinbase managed to close a round of financing for the E Series at $ 300 million, which led the hedge fund Tiger Global Management. Investors were also Y Combinator Continuity, Wellington Management, Andreessen Horowitz, Polychain and other companies.

Then the investment estimate of Coinbase reached $ 8 billion.

It is worth adding that the American company became the first “unicorn” of the Bitcoin industry following the results of a round of financing of Series D for $ 100 million, during which in August 2017 its valuation exceeded $ 1 billion. Institutional Venture Partners (IVP), Spark Capital, Greylock participated Partners, Battery Ventures, Section 32 and Draper Associates.

According to unconfirmed information, the total revenue of Coinbase in 2018 amounted to about $ 520 million, while the British unit earned 153 million euros ($ 172 million).
