The developer of antivirus software ESET warned about the miner LoudMiner, which is able to extract cryptocurrency on various operating systems. Experts have discovered three versions of miner for macOS and one for Windows. This BlockchainJournal reported by representatives of ESET.
In particular, user devices are infected by a miner virus during the installation of pirated copies of audio applications. The popular programs Ableton Live, Nexus, Reaktor 6, Propellerhead Reason and a number of others acted as bait.
As noted in ESET, pirated copies of software were hosted on 29 servers and regularly updated. A total of 137 versions of audio applications with hidden mining were discovered.
It is noteworthy that users could not notice the presence of a miner for a long time, since sound processing software, as a rule, always significantly increases the load on the processor.
ESET experts strongly recommend not to download pirated applications, and also to pay attention to the unusual behavior of the device – for example, to increase power consumption or increase the load on the processor.
Recall that in April a third of malicious activity on the Internet fell on cryptocurrency miners.
