Buying and selling Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies may soon be legally allowed in Russia. At the same time, settlements in cryptocurrencies are not provided for, writes Interfax, citing the statement of the Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation, Alexei Moiseyev.
The final decision on this issue, however, has not yet been made.
“In terms of cryptocurrency, the last question that remains is – literally today we had a meeting with the participation of both the Central Bank and the FSB – in fact, we now have a question of determining how much cryptocurrency can be used. There range from prohibition to the possibility of purchase. As foreign currency: you can buy and sell, but you can not pay, ”said Moses.
According to him, after the “political decision on this issue” is made, the bill will establish responsibility for illegal activities using cryptocurrency.
Earlier, Moiseyev suggested that the draft law “On digital financial assets” could be adopted by the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the second reading in the next two weeks.
In May, the State Duma prepared proposals for the regulation of cryptocurrencies, drawn up in accordance with the requirements of the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF). The final version of these recommendations was published last Friday. Despite numerous criticisms, the group decided that cryptocurrency exchanges should exchange user data when they make transactions between sites.
