The Kirovsky District Court of Kazan issued a verdict in a bitcoin fraud case against three residents of Yoshkar-Ola and Kazan, for whom at least four episodes of robbery are listed, reports Tatar-inform .
In particular, the attackers found people on the Internet who wanted to cash in Bitcoins, made an appointment with them, and then, at best, exchanged them for junk bank tickets, at worst – took sellers to deserted places and made them transfer cryptocurrency to their account in exchange for freedom .
Sometimes criminals presented themselves as policemen and, as one of the accused said, they threatened the victims with prison for allegedly fraudulent actions with cryptocurrency.
It is noteworthy that the defense of the defendants invited an expert to the court session, who said that bitcoins have no value and are not a monetary unit.
“What damage was caused to the victims cannot be determined – we do not have such an organization that would estimate the value of bitcoins. In fact, this is just a set of numbers. I believe that there is no corpus delicti here, ”said one of the defendants’ lawyer Galina Likhoshva.
As a result, two criminals were sentenced to 6 years and 4 months in a strict regime colony, one received 7 years of strict regime and the third – 6.5 years in total. The court did not appoint fines.
Recall, recently, former FSB investigators were detained on charges of extortion of 65 million rubles in Bitcoins.
