Rosseti North Caucasus discovered a large theft of electricity worth more than 130 million rubles for the illegal mining of cryptocurrencies. The company’s website says that the amount of damage caused would be enough for a large-scale reconstruction of the electric grid complex of several villages in Ingushetia.

The suspect installed two transformer stations near the village of Plievo in the Nazran district, through which stolen electricity was transferred to a nearby building. Upon examination, 1,651 devices for cryptocurrency mining were discovered there.

“This is the most resonant of all cases of mining thefts that have been identified by Rosseti North Caucasus experts over the past six months, ” said Alim Kokov, deputy general director for security at the company.

He also emphasized that such thefts by miners cause serious damage not only to the energy sector, but to the entire region. So, the amount of damage is almost a third of the annual budget of the entire Nazran district.

Information about the incident was transmitted to law enforcement officers, and the offender may face imprisonment for a period of 2 to 5 years.

Recall that in July Rosseti North Caucasus discovered an illegal connection to a mining farm in the city of Buinaksk. Then the damage from the theft of electricity is about 4.4 million rubles.
