Blockstream, a blockstream company, has announced it has expanded its Bitcoin network data service between space satellites in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as adding support for the Lightning Network. It is reported by CoinDesk .
The Blockstream Satellite service was launched in beta last August. The project is an attempt to use rented space satellites to transmit data on the Bitcoin network to almost anywhere in the world. According to Adam Beck, the CEO of Blockstream, this approach is designed to make Bitcoin more accessible for residents of regions with limited Internet.
As for the integration of the Lightning Network (LN), Beck stated the following:
“Lightning increases privacy through the use of onion routing and offset-off-netting. LN supports fast and scalable micropayments with low transaction costs. This has advantages for both retail and most other yuzkeys. Also, this technology makes it more efficient for the satellite services API to interact with the rest of the bitcoin infrastructure ”
To use the Blockstream Satellite service, a user needs a small satellite dish, a receiver and a computer (even a Raspberry Pi is enough). You can use the open source GNU Radio software toolkit to manage the connection.
“Recipients can accept bitcoin data. At the same time, the Internet provider will not be able to see your transactions , ”said Beck.
Recall, last month, Blockstream launched the blockstream.info block browser for Bitcoin and Liquid Sidechain.
