Employees at the French C3N digital crime center have destroyed a botnet miner that has attacked over 850,000 computers in more than 100 countries. It is reported by the BBC .

It is known that the botnet was controlled from the territory of France. He used infected computers to mine Monero, launch ransomware, and steal data, including patient data from Israeli hospitals. It is estimated that the income of hackers reached millions of euros.

Note that for the spread of the virus, an email newsletter was used with an offer of quick money or containing erotic materials, as well as infected USB drives.

According to the head of C3N, Jean-Dominique Nolle, a replica server was created to neutralize the botnet, which disabled the virus on already infected computers.

“People may not be aware of this, but 850,000 infected computers represent significant power and can even be used to disable all [civilian] websites on the planet, ” said Nolle.

The C3N server will continue to operate for several more weeks so that all infected computers can get rid of the virus.

It is noteworthy that a warning about the existence of a private server that spreads a virus called Retadup among computers running Windows was received by C3N specialists in the spring of 2019 from the antivirus company Avast.

Recall that in June a crypto mining botnet was discovered using the ports of the Android Debug Bridge utility designed for debugging mobile devices.
