Cboe Futures Exchange (CFE) announced on Thursday, March 14th that it will not add new markets to Bitcoin futures this month. According to the company, it needs to understand its own approach to the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

In its letter to investors , reporting on the addition of new products, the exchange at the same time wrote:

“In March 2019, CFE does not add Cboe Bitcoin Futures (XBT) futures contracts. CFE assesses its own approach regarding plans for a further proposal regarding trading in derivatives on digital assets. ”

At the same time, the exchange declares that already placed contracts for Bitcoin futures remain available for trading. This means that the last of the listed contracts, XBTM19, will expire in June of this year.

Bitcoin futures trading on the Chicago Stock Exchange (CBOE) started in December 2017, at the peak of prices for the first cryptocurrency.

In early February, TradeBlock researchers came to the conclusion that investor interest in bitcoin futures on the US stock exchanges CME and Cboe is gradually fading out.
