Users of the Electrum and MyEtherWallet cryptocurrency wallets were subjected to a phishing attack, which involved spreading emails aimed at illegally obtaining users' confidential personal data.
In such attacks, the attacker disguises himself as a proxy and sends the user a message or an email containing a malicious link, when you click on a request to enter personal data or install malware.
One of the first about the problem was reported by the user Reddit, exa61, who discovered that hackers are trying to pass off their fraudulent intentions for a security update to version 4.0.0, while the platform does not have this update and the current version of Electrum 3.3.3 purse, after which the platform responded and warned its users about fraud by posting a warning on the website and on social networks.
Just a couple of days ago, MyEtherWallet, a popular wallet for ethereum and tokens ERC-20 , also underwent a similar attack, warning its users via Twitter about phishing mail and reminding that the MEW team would never send messages first and communicate only in response to a client request through customer support.

The attacks on Electrum recently became quite frequent, and at the end of December, hackers managed to get hold of 243 Bitcoins (BTC), creating a phishing version of the wallet and receiving user logins and passwords. And in the middle of last month, another fake version of the client was discovered on GitHub; when using open source Electrum, fraudsters created another malicious clone.
