Peter Vincennes, the former chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation and the head of CoinLab, allegedly demands about 1.6 trillion yen ($ 16 billion) from the bankrupt Mt.Gox bitcoin exchange. This was announced by lawyer Daniel Kelman.

“He probably believes that the victims of Mt.Gox should not receive anything at all ,” he stressed.

In 2012, Mt.Gox and CoinLab entered into an agreement, according to which the latter allegedly became an intermediary between the exchange and users in the United States. In 2013, Mt.Gox stated that CoinLab interpreted its powers incorrectly, after which the company immediately filed a lawsuit against the trading platform.

The conflict escalated when the exchange filed a lawsuit, accusing the opponent of stealing $ 5 million from users of the site. After the fall of Mt.Gox, the legal battles did not end, and CoinLab filed a lawsuit for tens of millions of dollars against the parent company of the Tibanne exchange.

As part of civil rehabilitation, users of Mt.Gox are expected to be able to return about $ 1 billion. Nevertheless, it is not entirely clear how Vincennes’s claims can affect future payments.

The community has sharply criticized the actions of the head of CoinLab. So, the CEO of the Krako Bitcoin Exchange, Jesse Powell, expressed outrage at the possible delay in payments to victims due to "empty claims".

This is a frivolous claim over a botched partnership attempt. How could you think about your account holders? How do you show your face? https://t.co/TzOIrCy407

“How can you think that your claims for $ 16 billion are more important than the interests of direct account holders at Mt.Gox?”

Earlier, Tim Draper told how much he paid for the confiscated bitcoins of the darknet-marketplace Silk Road.
