The UK's leading port operator, Associated British Ports (ABP), has signed an agreement with the digital logistics division Marine Transport International on the development of Blockchain for port logistics, the report said.

According to the contract with Marine Transport International, ABP, which operates in 21 ports and carries 25 percent of freight traffic in the UK, will participate in pilot projects using blockchain technology.

According to the source, each party in the ABP supply chain has no connection with others, since port operators, carriers and shippers use different systems.

Joseph Cleworth, Founder and CEO of Marine Transport International, noted that the blockchain solution can reduce the time spent on manual analysis of data that is in different systems.

"With the blockchain, we can connect all of these systems to ensure accurate and rapid data sharing, accelerate and simplify the trading process in the UK and beyond."

Earlier in June, Denmark showed its plans to introduce technology for registering ships in local ship registries. Subsidiary company Abu Dhabi Ports also launched its own internal solution in the logistics sector.

In May, Fred Smith, CEO of Global FedEx's delivery service, commented on the benefits of innovative technology for supply chains, calling it "the next frontier that will completely change" the entire industry.

Earlier, we reported that Switzerland plans to enter into cooperation with Israel on the regulation of the blockchain industry.
